Justice for Chance

Chances' Story

Warning story and images could be graphic to some readers!

Chance was found in a garbage bag — discarded like trash on a dirt road on 3/1/25. A Good Samaritan picked him up and rushed him to the awesome Dr. Gregory at Semmes Animal Hospital, who was willing to come in after hours on a holiday weekend and work around the clock for this boy. He’s been kept comfortable until we were able to get him in for further testing today at Southern Vet Clinic due to Semmes Clinic X-ray being down.  With the heaviest of all hearts, we must report that Chance has been set free from his earthly body! Dr. Dean at Southern Vet Clinic was able to get X-Rays and determine that Chance had been shot in the head. The bullet fractured the skull and was lodged in the brain causing swelling and a traumatic brain injury that Chance could never recover from. The worst part of all of this, is that the entry wound for the bullet had already healed, so Dr. Dean feels that this happened atleast 10 days ago and he has been suffering ever since.

Over the last 3 days, this boy has been shown love like no other from all of you in our community and our vet staff. He was kept warm, comfortable and was loved on continuously. He passed today surrounded by love from our volunteer and the staff at Southern. He’s finally at peace — even though our hearts are not!

We all wanted a different outcome here but sadly that just wasn’t meant to be. We may not could have changed Chance’s fate but we can change the fate for others like Chance. Please rally for Chance! Contact all local representatives, law makers, animal control, ect and let’s demand change. We have to get better laws in our area. Chance suffered 10 plus agonizing days at the hand of a human. He did not deserve that. He didn’t have a voice but we do and let’s use it!

Chance did not die in vain! We will continue this fight for him. We are sending all new results and evidence into the Sheriffs working his case! If you have any information regarding how chance ended up like this please come forward!

Thank you all for sharing, donating and praying! Don’t stop now! Keep his story circulating!

We will pay off all of Chance’s vet bills, his cremation and if there are any additional funds they will go towards others like Chance and a reward for information leading to the capture of the individual who did this!

Thank you Dr. Gregory and staff at Semmes Animal Hospital for your kindness and never ending love that you showed Chance the last 3 days and for coming in on a holiday weekend no questions asked.

Thank you Dr. Dean Stringfellow and Staff at Southern Vet Clinic for helping Chance in his final moments.

Thank you Dr. Knizley with Animal Care Center, Dr. Martin former owner of Parkway Animal Hospital & Dr. Mims with Tillmans Corner Vet Clinic for your input when asked. It means everything to us!

Thank you volunteers who transported and to each and every one of you on this page that shared and donated.

Chance has a village and together we can make a difference in his honor!

We will be Making a Justice for Chance Page and will share the link when it’s up and going!

Chance is being cremated & will be returned to us at Wags for his final resting place.

Join Us In The Fight For Justice For Chance!!!

We will be making a post in the near future regarding ways to help — meetings to attend, people to reach out to, ways to donate for a reward for any info leading to the perpetrator, ect!

We are working on all of these things now! We are blown away by all of the support our boy is getting and are forever grateful. Please bare with us as we put all of this information together! THANK YOU ALL!!!

Dear (Sherriff, animal control, district attorney)

It has come to my attention that a gross case of animal cruelty has occurred in Grand Bay, AL.  A person allegedly and with malice caused the intentional suffering of a dog, now named Chance, by gunshot to the skull.  Chance was placed in a black garbage bag and left for dead at the end of Henderson Camp Rd. Other than the obvious, another major problem is that Chance was not dead! Chance suffered in that garbage bag until a citizen stumbled upon that bag and noticed Chance was still alive and suffering.  I find it necessary to voice my concern along with an ever-growing national collective who share my disbelief and outrage regarding the utter depravity displayed in this case.  I therefore respectfully request an investigation be immediately initiated to gather evidence surrounding the deliberate suffering of Chance and that the most severe penalty be pursued as well.

Although not required, I do feel it important to validate my concerns; when I try to imagine what possible motive animal abusers entertain for subjecting their animal victims to such malicious, heinous actions of brutality, I fail, but I am thankful for a lack of cognitive understanding and rationalization.  To engage in such malevolent behavior absolutely suggests sociopathic and sadistic tendencies and demonstrates an incontrovertible lack of morality regarding other living being and gross disrespect for the law.  In fact, a person shows such a remarkable lack of compassion towards animals has, disturbingly enough, the ability to show such indifferences towards humans.  The link between animal and human abuse has been established, and if we excuse or ignore Chances violent killing, we would be serving an injustice to both animals and society.

You may scoff at this message, disregarding it as the exaggerated rhetoric and embellished ranting of an animal rights activist.  However, I have no motive, no potential financial gain, no physical profit, no commercial advantage; indeed, my only focus is to protect the innocent, sentient animals some people regard as mere sacrificial, expendable beings, objectified and disposable as garbage. This is a dangerous position and an absolute example of unprincipled endeavors and immoral behaviors.  When animals are subjected to such brutality with no human accountability, our society inaccurately concludes that animals are not worthy of empathy, compassion, or rights.  We become desensitized to the issue of animal abuse, and our children learn troubling lessons that are contrary to respect of and towards animals, which often evolves to a lack of empathy for humans and blatant disregard for our laws.  We must do everything in our power to allocate necessary resources to investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of animal cruelty cases.  I understand that yours can be a challenging position, limited by vague and inadequate laws as well as insufficient funds; however, we are intelligent people with loud voices and tireless determination, and I believe we can make a difference or initiate change to better protect our animal friends.

Please proceed with the most severe penalties and examine where existing legal mandates may be rewritten to address the current inadequacy of such.
